Scrooge on Netflix
One of my own family’s favourite Christmas movies is The Muppet Christmas Carol (remember Michael Caine and the talking veg?!) so I was delighted to see there’s a new animated version coming out soon on Netflix.
The new animated film stars a host of famous actors including Olivia Colman as voices Past, Jessie Buckley as Isabel Fezziwig, Johnny Flynn as Bob Cratchit and Luke Evens as the man himself, Scrooge.
Produced by Timeless Films in association with Axis Studios and directed by Stephen Donnelly, Charles Dickens’ ageless legend is reborn in this supernatural, time-travelling, musical adaptation of the definitive Christmas story.
With his very soul on the line, Scrooge has but one Christmas Eve left to face his past and build a better future. Featuring re-imagined songs from the legendary and two-time Academy Award® winner Leslie Bricusse OBE, Scrooge: A Christmas Carol looks like a great new movie for a new generation to sing along to.

Director Stephen Donnelly says “It’s been a fascinating challenge to adapt such a beloved and often-told story. I think this version will give those who know A Christmas Carol all the things they expect, but not as they’ve experienced them before.
There are more than enough psychedelic, time-travelling and musical surprises to keep those familiar with the story on the edge of their seats, while the authentic essence of Dickens has been retained for those coming completely fresh to the classic tale. ”
The new animated version of Scrooge is set to debut globally on Netflix on 2nd December 2022.
A Christmas Carol
Did you know A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is actually titled “A Christmas Carol. In Prose. Being a Ghost Story of Christmas”?
It was first published in 1843 and has remained popular ever since. It’s never been out of print and has been adapted many times for film, stage, opera and other media.
A Christmas Carol tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who is hated by all who cross his path due to his miserly and grumpy nature. On Christmas Eve Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. After these visits, Scrooge undergoes a transformation into a kinder, gentler man.
The novella by Dickens shows off the Victorian revival of the Christmas holiday, with seasonal food and drink, gathering together as a family, songs, dance, games, and the idea of being generous at Christmas time to those less well off.
