Have you considered Dubai as a family holiday destination? Don’t be fooled into thinking that Dubai is only about shopping, skyscrapers, heat and luxury hotels. For those craving adventure, these ideas for extreme family entertainment in Dubai will ensure you create plenty of memories!

From souks to safaris, water parks to amusement parks, a Miracle Garden to an underwater zoo or an indoor snow park, all members of the family will enjoy a trip to this fascinating city.

Thrilling Family Entertainment in Dubai

dubai family entertainment

Dubai is one of seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The city has grown out of the desert into an ultra-modern metropolis that combines the old with the new and offers adventure around every corner.

As attractions and amenities are spread out, you should consider renting a car for your trip. Fuel prices are low and travelling in your own air conditioned car really is the most comfortable way to get around.

#1. Visit the World’s Largest Indoor Amusement Park

The IMG Worlds of Adventure amusement park is the largest indoor amusement park in the world. Needless to say you will find extreme and not so extreme entertainment and adventure for every member of the family here. From fast and thrilling roller coaster rides to a state-of-the-art 12 screen cinema.

There are 5 adventure zones to discover and rides from the downright terrifying Haunted Hotel, to the more gentle Dino Carousel and everything in between.

#2. Thrills in the Desert

A trip to the Al Marmoom Desert is a must for thrill seekers. Here you can enjoy a jeep safari, dune bashing, sand boarding, camel rides and much more. Afterwards enjoy a magnificent sunset and immerse yourself in the local culture with an evening spent dining under the stars at a Bedouin encampment. There are many operators that offer trips to the desert, just pick the one that best suits your family.

For those wanting to have their own family adventure, pack a picnic and drive out to Al Qudra Lake where you can watch birds and other wildlife in their natural habitat.

You Have Mail!

Get our best content direct to your inbox! You’ll receive quick and easy recipes, fun ideas to entertain the kids, parenting tips, great competitions, as well as offers from brands we trust.

#3. Get a Bird’s Eye View of Dubai

dubai family entertainment

How about a skydive? You will certainly get a bird’s eye view of Dubai, that is if you can bear to look! There are several companies offering everything from tandem skydives to individual dives for experienced skydivers.

Alternatively you can try indoor skydiving in a purpose built wind tunnel or take a gyrocopter flight around the city with an experienced pilot. No matter which option you choose, it is sure to get your adrenaline pumping!

#4. Experience the World’s Longest Urban Zipline

Do you want to ride at the speed of a car while dangling from a high wire? At XLine Dubai you will experience speeds of up to 80kms along a 1km urban zip-line. Suspended up to 170m high, you will take off form the Amwaj Tower and fly over land and water before coming to rest on the roof of the Dubai Marina Mall.

Best of all, you can ride the line in tandem with friends and family, as there are 2 lines running side by side. Participants need to be aged 12+ and in good general health.

#5. Adventures on Water

Although your accommodation will probably come with a beautiful pool area or beach access, for those looking for more fun on the water there are any number of action-packed water adventures to be enjoyed in Dubai.

From wake boarding to hydro-scooter tours, sailing to flyboarding, donut, banana boat, jet-ski and parasailing to diving, cruising and kitesurfing, you’ll be spoiled for choice.

#6. Experience the Thrill of the Track

Those from 7 years up can experience the thrill of the race at Dubai Autodrome. Offering both indoor and outdoor tracks, this fast-paced adventure will test the skills of even the most experienced driver.

#7. Adventures in the Air

For early risers, how about a hot-air balloon ride with the family? Travel at a relaxed pace 4,000 feet above the Arabian desert and enjoy breathtaking views of Dubai and the surrounding area.

Often a hot air balloon ride can be combined with other experiences, including quad biking, desert safari and an opportunity to meet and hold a falcon.

#8. Discover Outdoor Adventure in Hatta

For something completely different, consider a trip to Hatta where visitors can enjoy lakes, mountains and wildlife. Adventure is on the doorstep with the opportunity to explore on horseback, mountain bike or from a paraglider!

Water babies can go kayaking in the Hatta Dam or head to the Hatta Water Hub for thrilling water slides, where you can reach heights of up to 15m and speeds of between 40 to 80 kms.

Land lovers can go zorbing, tube sliding or pit their skills against others in zorb football or gel ball (similar to paint balling).

Visitors can learn about the local culture at the Hatta Heritage Village or get up close to honey bees at the Hatta Honey Bee Discovery Centre.

As you can see, Dubai has a breathtaking range of activities and family entertainment to choose from and these are just to get you started!

There are some truly unforgettable things to do in Chiang Mai as a family, and here are some of the best:

Family-Friendly Things to do in Chiang Mai

Siam Insect Zoo

The Siam Insect Zoo offers a fun, educational and interactive experience that is perfect for kids who love insects. There is a huge collection of live insects, ranging from beetles to scorpions and plenty more, as well as various specimens from around the world.

Children usually love the zoo since insects are not seen just in glass encasements. Those that are courageous can also pick up some specimen boxes. You can even hold some live insects in your hand! If you visit, be sure to opt for the guided tour.

Tiger Kingdom

Tiger Kingdom Chiang Mai

The Tiger Kingdom of Chiang Mai gives you a wonderful chance to get really close to tigers. It is even possible to go inside an enclosure and even stroke some tigers, with plenty of photo opportunities available.

It is free to walk around Tiger Kingdom, but there is a charge if you want to enter an enclosure for one of the animal encounters. The price depends on whether you want to see large tigers, medium tigers or cubs.

Chiang Mai Night Safari

Chiang Mai Night Safari

Chiang Mai’s Night Safari is inspired by the Singapore Night Safari, which is renowned all around the world. It is around half an hour from the city and hosts different exotic nocturnal animals like lions, tigers and leopards.

There is an open-sided tram allowing you to see the creatures. Various trails can be explored and there are guided explanations available through an included speaker system.

This safari is not just opened during the night. Even if you decide to visit during the day, it is still a lot of fun. The day walking trail gives you access to numerous animals like ostriches and hippos. If you have children, you can enjoy the outdoor covered playground, which has various play structures and slides.

Art In Paradise Museum

The fun and modern Art In Paradise Museum is great for all children visiting Chiang Mai. It is interactive and gives you access to over 130 incredible 3D paintings. There are even some life-size 3D art pieces where posing is possible! This leads to the creation of funny and surreal images. How about having a photograph as you run away from the monster King Kong? Kids always love that.

Bua Tong Sticky Waterfalls

Chiang Mai’s countryside features countless waterfalls that are simply beautiful, however the most popular one is Bua Tong. This area is known locally as the ‘sticky waterfalls’.

In the area there are limestone formations that make waterfalls sticky. This means everything is very simple to climb. You can easily play in the water right among lush nature and beautiful scenery.

Chiang Mai Elephant Sanctuary

Elephants

In Chiang Mai, elephants stand out as a huge attraction. In the past, the animals were used for working purposes. As the natural habitats of the elephants were destroyed, fewer animals remained. This eventually led to the increase in popularity of Thailand elephant tourism.

In the Elephant Sanctuary you can get personal and close with these lovely giants. This is a true once-in-a-lifetime meeting where kids and adults can have a lot of fun. Just make sure that you talk to the locals since there are strict rules surrounding elephant tourism.

Huay Tung Tao Lake

This is a wonderful opportunity to get rid of the hustle of the city for a quick escape. It is around 30 minutes away from Chiang Mai, and is a huge manmade reservoir allowing you to fish, swim or just relax. The surrounding nature is beautiful and all families love the experience. You can easily factor in some relaxation time here.

Stunning Destinations For Festive Family Holiday Ideas

Colorado, USA

Festive Family Holiday ideas Colorado USA

If you’re like most families, you might wish to embrace the cold weather and Christmas snow over the holidays. You are sure to find Christmas magic in Colorado. This state is famed for its the Rocky Mountains, where alpine resorts like Aspen and Vail are home to family-friendly slopes – and plenty of snow.

Depending on where you live, Colorado may only be a few hours drive, or a short flight away. If you are coming from further afield, book early to get the best value on flights.

Remember to pack all your presents into your main bags. This way, your little one won’t be tempted to take a peek!

Before you decide which resort to stay at, it’s best to do some research about which one has some fun Christmas activities, and family-friendly facilities. Large ones like Aspen and Vail have a rounded reputation, with cozy cabins and social hubs providing a warm atmosphere all Christmas long.

Avoid the crowds by checking out smaller – but equally amazing – ski havens like Copper Mountain and Breckenridge.

As with any cold destination, wrap your little one in padded ski gear and snow boots. Not only will they be toasty and warm, but this makes for some excellent photographs to treasure forever.

The Bahamas

Festive Family Holiday ideas the Bahamas pigs swimming

Christmas may be cold where you live, but some tropical destinations enjoy year-round sunshine. In fact, 44% of people surveyed recently said they’d prefer to travel to a tropical island for Christmas. One of the most popular and family-friendly is the Bahamas, which boasts the driest, sunniest conditions over Christmas.

Filled with family friendly resorts and sandy beaches, families usually choose to visit the capital city of Nassau. All over the city, there are numerous restaurants that serve western and local food, so there’s enough choice to cater to even the fussiest of eaters.

For a fun day out with your little one, hop over the bridge to Paradise Island, where the iconic Aquaventure Waterpark awaits. Even the smallest kids will remember a boat trip to Grand Exuma, a unique hotspot where pigs swim in the sea.

Unfortunately, there is one catch: everywhere in the Bahamas gets booked up quickly for Christmas. Avoid this issue when you book a vacation in advance at a family friendly resort. Though you might feel as though you’re being over-prepared, you’ll thank yourself when you arrive at your destination without any stress.

Before you depart, remember to pack some essential items to keep your little one safe from the sun. From child-friendly sunscreen to sunglasses, pack these essentials next to your kid’s Christmas presents.

Kids will enjoy climbing up to the fairy tale Prague Castle on the hill, or going on boat rides down the Vltava River. You really will have a magical festive family holiday here.

If you have more time to play with, why not turn your city break into an extended trip? Switzerland is the poster child for Christmas, and for good reason. With a snowy mountain landscape and starry skies, your little one will feel as though they’ve stepped into their favourite storybook when you visit.

The only way to complete this trip is if you take a ride on the famous Glacier Express. This once in a lifetime train ride takes you through the mountains and the Grand Canyon of Switzerland.

Though you might want to stay in a bustling city like Zurich or Geneva, this setting could become too overwhelming when you’re travelling with young kids. Escape from the noise and enjoy a relaxing retreat in a smaller location, like Bern or Lucerne. These towns are nestled in the heart of the mountains, so you’re bound to have a trip filled with Christmas spirit.

When choosing your alpine destination, consider booking into a wooden lodge or an igloo. Your little one might be too young for skiing, but there are plenty of authentic Christmas markets and ice rinks to spend your time at. For an unforgettable Christmas treat, take your little one to St. Gallen to visit the giant Christmas tree, where you’ll find an array of other festivities.

Dubai has grown from just being the desert, to the jewel in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) crown for tourism, trade and business.  Once a stop-over for travelers to India, The Maldives, Africa and Australia, with a thriving Duty Free business, the opening up of the housing market to non-GCC individuals in 2002, has seen a rise in the number of expats calling Dubai home.

DubaiWith such a large expat community, it is inevitable that tourism has and will continue to rise, as visiting relatives, and many more, flock to the emirate to enjoy the year round sunshine. And Dubai has embraced all who come, with the creation of stunning hotels, eateries, shopping facilities and family friendly entertainment for both tourists and locals.

Dubai has managed to retain some of it’s old world charm too, and really is a haven for a great family holiday. It does get very hot in Summer months so, the best time to visit is September to April.

I was lucky enough to enjoy a family holiday in Dubai – here are my tips to ensure you get the most from, and enjoy, your Dubai Family Holiday.

Most people are familiar with the Canary Islands as a suitable family holiday location but have you ever considered Cape Verde? Here is why Cape Verde makes an ideal family holiday destination:

With all the natural beauty of the nearby Canary Islands, but with a much less conspicuous tourist presence and a unique authentic charm, Cape Verde makes an ideal family holiday destination. Not only does the island chain boast year-long sunshine, and one of the most developed governments of any African nation, it also has an abundance of things to do and see.

It’s easy to see why the small nation’s reputation with holiday makers is growing annually. And there are plenty reasons why you should opt for a Cape Verdean adventure for your next family break.

Why Visit Cape Verde?

White Sandy Beaches and Lush Landscapes

While it may lack the water parks and funfairs of Tenerife or Lanzarote, it more than makes up for it in the unspoilt beauty of the white sandy beaches that line its ten islands.

Beyond the beach you’ll discover a dramatic and enchanting natural beauty whether it’s in the lush green gorges of Santo Antão, the barren otherworldly caldera of Pico de Fogo, or the uninhabited desert of Boa Vista.

With such variety across the archipelago, Cape Verde is a destination that rewards multiple visits, but even if you only adventure there once, you’ll have memorable time.

Untouched Charm

While Cape Verde has come on leaps and bounds as a tourist destination over the last few years, it still has an untouched charm that other tourist hotspots would kill for. Take the beaches of its most northern island Sal for example.

The island has a number of well-visited resorts, but you can easily find a section of beach all to yourself. It can even feel like you’re the only person on the island!

The Activities

Cape Verde is packed full of exciting activities to enjoy. What it lacks in the commercial developments it makes up for in the range of authentic pursuits to entertain kids of all ages. From more sedate activities like beach fishing, to exciting ones like quad biking through the desert or taking a submarine trip to some of the shipwrecks that adorn the ocean floor.

For older kids there is a world of watersports to enjoy. Find windsurfing lessons at the Riu Touareg Hotel, to surfing off the coast of Sal. Alternatively, if you’d rather have a more relaxing time at sea you could join an excursion and set sail on a Catamaran. There’s no better way to see Cape Verde’s rugged coast and glistening beaches.

The Food

Thanks to the Portuguese and West African influences, Cape Verde has developed a uniquely delicious and hearty cuisine. There are plenty of excellent restaurants to be found, and as you’d expect for an island nation, the fresh seafood is the biggest draw.

Expect to be amazed by the quality of the shrimps, calamari, and lobster that you’ll find. Make sure and try the country’s national dish, capucha rica. It is a slow cooked fish stew whose earthy flavours in many ways embody the taste of Cape Verde as a whole.

As its popularity grows every year, consider a family holiday to Cape Verde before it gets too popular so you can enjoy the authentic charms of this island nation for yourself. You certainly won’t be disappointed.
