#1. The Wheel of Brisbane

Take in a 360-degree tour of Brisbane with a spin on the big wheel! Travel 60m above the ground in an air-conditioned gondola, and experience the sights of Brisbane – you can even book a sky high picnic for an extra treat!

The Wheel of Brisbane takes 10-15 minutes and includes four rotations, with a stop at the top to capture the sights. You’ll see Mount Coot-tha, the Botanical Gardens, the Goodwill Bridge, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, and the rest of the Brisbane skyline.

#2. Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium

The Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium is just 5kms from Brisbane city centre, within the Brisbane Botanic Gardens at Mt Coot-tha.

You can enjoy a show in the Cosmic Skydome, a 12.5m projection dome, or take a tour of Brisbane’s current night sky with one of our astronomers. Don’t miss the Planetarium’s Display Zone where kids will enjoy taking an astronomical journey from the Big Bang to the present day.

General entry to the Planetarium is free, however shows in the Cosmic Skydome are ticketed. Many of the Cosmic Shows are for ages 6 years and up, however there is also a schedule of kids shows, including The Little Star That Could or Perfect Little Planet.

#3. Brisbane Botanic Gardens

…And while we’re talking about the Botanic Gardens, make sure to explore the Hide ‘n’ Seek Children’s Trail set in the heart of the Gardens’ shady Exotic Rainforest.

Collect a map at the start of the trail and follow it to make sure you spot all the surprises and learn plenty of fun and interesting facts.

#4. Queensland Art Gallery of Modern Art

The QAGOMA Children’s Art Centre is a really fun place to visit! The museum works with artists to create interactive exhibitions and activities for kids to enjoy.

Younger kids will enjoy Toddler Tuesdays for games, stories and crafts – and even babies can have their artistic introduction with Art Starters, a multi-sensory play time.

#5. Story Bridge

Story Bridge is one of Brisbane’s most famous landmarks. Take it all in with a walk across, a segway tour, a river cruise, or an amazing adventure climb up the bridge itself to see the unbelievable views!

This once-in-a-lifetime experience is suitable for over-10s and must be booked in advance.

Australia Zoo

Travel an hour from Brisbane and you can visit the world-renowned Australia Zoo, complete with 100 acres of animal experiences.

Owned by the famed Irwin family, the Zoo has everything from crocodiles, wombats and Tasmanian devils to rhinos, tigers, red pandas and cheetahs.

#7. Brisbane Bike Tours

What a fun way to see the city! Hire bikes and take one of many guided tours through the city and learn about Brisbane’s history, interesting landmarks, heritage sites and spectacular scenery.

One such tour, Brisbane by Bicycle, offers 2- and 3.5-hour morning and afternoon tours, as well as summer twilight tours to watch the sunset.

#8. SparkLab ScienCentre

Ignite your imagination in SparkLab, an interactive science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) space, ideal for 6 to 13 year olds!

Follow your curiosity and bring out your inner scientist as you question, investigate and wonder about the world around you. Explore interactive exhibits across three zones and discover how STEM affects your everyday world. See live experiments at the Science Bar and get hands on at the Maker Space, designing and creating a solution to a challenging question.

#9. Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is the world’s first and largest koala sanctuary and an amazing choice for a day out! Just 12kms from Brisbane, the sanctuary has over 130 koalas to see – and kids will love it.

There are opportunities to hold koalas, hand feed kangaroos and see more Australian wildlife in a natural habitat. Check out the daily activity schedule to see what time all the events are on – you won’t want to miss the keeper talks and feeding times.

#10. Frew Park, Milton

There is lots to see and do at Frew Park! Formerly the Milton Tennis Centre and Milton Bowl site, this 3.5 hectare city parkland is now a fun space for the family to enjoy. You’ll find the Roy Emerson Tennis Centre, The Arena play space, Wendy Turnbull Green, picnic areas and more.

The Arena playground is spectacular and has towers, tunnels, climbing walls, bridges, slides, swings and so many more things to hang from, climb on and explore. Two areas ensure that there’s space for little ones as well as more adventurous older kids.

#11. DreamWorld

Less than an hour from Brisbane is Dreamworld, a fantastic theme park with lots to see and do. In ABC Kids World, your kids can interact with their favourite Australian TV characters, including Dorothy the Dinosaur, Henry the Octopus, Wags the Dog and Captain Feathersword from The Wiggles

At the DreamWorks Experience, they can enjoy characters like the Madagascar gang, Shrek and Kung Fu Panda’s Po. Then take a stroll through Trolls Village, ride the thrill coasters, take a splash in the water park, then venture to Dreamworld Corroboree to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage, culture, wildlife and stories.

#12. Kangaroo Point Cliffs

Go for a hike or try your hand at rock climbing and abseiling – Kangaroo Point Cliffs is the perfect place for adventurers!

Pack a picnic or grab something on the go, because the Cliffs are a fantastically scenic place to stop and see across the River to the city and mountains beyond.

#13. Clock Tower at Brisbane City Hall

Take a free 15-minute tour up the iconic Clock Tower at City Hall, which for more than 30 years was the tallest structure in the city. Four giant bells, weighing over 3 tonnes, still chime every 15 minutes, and a 4.3 tonne bell strikes on the hour mark.

The tower itself is 92m high, with an observation deck at 73m for amazing views over the city. Be prepared – the tour takes you up in a beautifully restored hand-operated lift.

#14. Hop on a CityCat

Hop on one of many CityCats, CityHoppers and cross-river CityFerries and travel from the Regatta to South Bank and The University of Queensland, Hawthorne to Riverside express and South Bank to New Farm. Terminals are located along the Brisbane River between St Lucia and Hamilton.

#15. Visit the BRISBANE Sign

The infamous Brisbane sign was originally made from plywood by local Men’s Shed groups for the G20 Leaders’ Summit in 2014, and was meant to be a temporary installation – however, it became so popular that it was recreated and is a now a permanent South Bank fixture.

The sign is the perfect backdrop for fun photos, silly selfies and some creative family snaps – go ahead and get snap happy!
