How to Throw a Scooby Doo Birthday Party
Scooby Doo Party Invitations
First things first, you need to invite your mystery-loving guests. You could create your own Scooby Doo invitations with messages like:
“The Mystery Machine is coming your way
to celebrate
NAME’s NUMBER birthday
on etc”
or
“Hey Scooby Doo! Where are you?
NAME is turning AGE
Join the gang on etc”
Alternatively, you’ll find a variety of Scooby Doo birthday invitations and free printable templates online, from places like Etsy, Invitation World and more.

Scooby Doo Party Decorations
Scooby Doo is all about a 60s vibe, what with the lime green Mystery Machine covered in flowers, so you could decorate the house with funky hippy flowers like these ones from Amanda Keyt.
You could also make up different signs with fun sayings or quotes from Scooby Doo, for example
- “Do Not Enter!”
- “Zoinks!”
- “Would you do it for a Scooby Snack?”
- “Meddling Kids Beware!”
- “Jinkies”
- “Jeepers, Watch Out for Creepers”
This Scooby Doo game pack and garlands set from Amazon looks cool too, and includes a chain link garland, 10ft birthday letter banner, Scooby Doo confetti and a Scooby Doo game. (We may earn a small commission if you buy through our link.)
And I love this idea from this mum for her son’s party – it’s a framed “Would you do it for a Scooby Snack?” sign on the food table.
Scooby Doo Photo Booth
Set up a photo booth for some fun Scooby-style photos! There are lots of props sets available on Amazon and Etsy. Or if you want to make your own props, Starklx has these printable Scooby Doo images that you can cut out and glue onto sticks for the photo props.
Mama Likes This has free printable Scooby Doo masks, including Velma and Daphne.
And this fun Mystery Machine cut-out stand is available on Amazon, perfect for everyone to queue up for photos in the van!
Scooby Doo Birthday Cake Ideas
You could go for a 3D option like this Scooby Doo cake on Cake Central. Start by making a tray bake or sheet cake for the base, then bake a separate loaf cake that you cut to shape into the Mystery Machine van. Now get creative with your decorating and use play figures on top.
Alternatively, follow Couture Cakery’s lead and have a tiered cake decorated with fondant icing.
This is an even simpler-to-decorate version from Cakes Decor with the birthday girl or boy’s initial on top, which is nice.
Or if you are are a dab hand with the buttercream icing then check out this fun Scooby Doo cake by one grandma who gives tips on how she made the cake here.
Scooby Doo Party Food
Top of the list has to be Scooby Snacks! Use a dog bone shaped cookie cutter, and either make little bone-shaped cookies like these ones from Hungry Forever.
Generally any kind of dog-themed food is going to work, as after all Scooby Doo is a cool hound. So continue the theme by cutting sandwiches, melon, ham, cheese, etc into bone shapes.
Hot dogs would also be fun and fit with the American show theme. You could have a Hot Dog Stand with a variety of toppings and sauces for party guests to choose from.
Or how about setting up a “Make Your Own Scooby Sandwich” or “Shaggy Subs Station” with different fillings they can put onto their sub or long roll. (This helps cater for all tastes too because they can choose their own).
Other Ideas for Scooby Doo Party Food:
- Puperoni Pizzas – you could make mini pizzas with tomato, cheese and pepperoni
- Daphne Dip (hummus with veggies to dip in)
- Mini “Dogs” in a Blanket
- Sausage Roll Mummies to keep with the spooky Scooby Doo theme.
- Mystery Cookies
For drinks you could offer
- Monster Juice – make up a colourful fruit punch and use the Halloween party idea of freezing juice in latex-free gloves to float in the punch
- Spooky Drink – make ice cream sodas where you pour a soft drink and pop a scoop of ice cream. Spooky spiders optional on top of the foam!
- Mummy juice boxes – Inner Child Crochet made these for her son’s birthday party, she tells you how to make them on her blog.

Scooby Doo Party Games
To go with the Mystery theme, you’ll want a Scooby Scavenger Hunt with clues. Create a hunt around the house and garden with clues and riddles. You could have quotes on each clue card from the show as well.
Or have some detective activities for the guests to do, such as writing with invisible ink or playing nature detectives. You’ll find more ideas to inspire you over here.
The game of “Guess Who” would also be fun with all the different Scooby Doo characters including Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby. Favourite monsters and creepy characters include Phantom, Black Knight, Ape Man, Ghost Clown and Creeper (was he the inspiration for Minecraft?!).
I love this idea from Inner Child Crochet for a “Can You Feed Scooby Doo?” game (aka a bean bag toss) through a decorated box.
