From now until the end of January 2023 BRITA Ireland are inviting Irish customers to send their used BRITA cartridges for recycling by free post to their offices in Co. Meath.
For every cartridge received for recycling they will donate €1 to Seal Rescue Ireland to support their work rehabilitating seals that have been found in distress around the coast of Ireland and to release them back to the open waters once they have recovered.

Recycle to Help Rescue Seals!
Seal Rescue Ireland
As part of BRITA Ireland’s commitment to fighting against the damage that single use plastic does to the planet, they have teamed up with Seal Rescue Ireland, as one of their major sponsors. Along with sponsoring one of their pools and kennels, they have also sponsored a number of seals including Arctic seal Cloudberry, a species very rarely found in Ireland.
Seal Rescue Ireland (SRI) is a registered charity that works around the clock to rescue, rehabilitate and release seal pups found sick, injured or orphaned across the coast of Ireland.
As the only seal rescue centre in the Republic of Ireland, they respond to reports nationwide and aim to rehabilitate the pups back to full health so they can be returned to the wild.
SRI promotes ocean conservation and sustainability through active education, community engagement and research programmes, in order to protect our marine environment and all life within.
Kinder to the Environment
Did you know that using a single BRITA MAXTRA+ cartridge can reduce the use of up to 150 one litre single use plastic bottles?
“One of the biggest threats to Ireland’s wild seals is the build-up of plastic waste polluting the seas which they call home” says Melanie Croce, Executive Director, Seal Rescue Ireland.
By the end of 2022 BRITA Ireland expect to recycle 20,000 cartridges through freepost returns alone to Bluestone, a whopping increase on the 5,000 returned cartridges in 2021.
The ambition for 2023 is to double this figure to 40,000, and you can help!
