We love seeing a brand that shows how inclusive they can be, so we were thrilled to see Target has yet again brought out a range of fun wheelchair-friendly Halloween costumes for kids. Aren’t they fab?

As part of the kids costumes in Target’s Hyde and Eek! Boutique this Halloween, there are several options for adaptive and wheelchair-friendly Halloween costumes, including a race car, princess carriage, a pirate ship, construction worker and lots more.

Wheelchair-Friendly Halloween Costumes

These clever wheelchair covers fit most sizes of wheelchairs (or can be easily cut to size), which is great news for parents of tots to teens. Get ready to preorder or buy early though, as demand is already high for these wheelchair-friendly Halloween costumes.

Target Pirate wheelchair costume - Mykidstime

Little pirates can get ready to sail the seven seas looking for buried treasure with a wheelchair cover designed to look like a pirate ship, complete with Jolly Roger flag, and rolling waves on the wheels. While kids who prefer a princess carriage will get transport fit for Cinderella herself!

The matching costumes will be sold separately, and both feature openings at the back to make dressing up easier and more comfortable.

Adaptive Costumes

In addition to the pirate and princess costumes, there are also costumes in the range that are suited to children with sensory issues or extra physical needs.

Try a unicorn, a shark or superhero favourites. They have a soft and cozy feel, with flat seams with no tags for a sensory-friendly design. Extras like the hoods, wings or tails can be removed for added comfort. There are also concealed openings in the front pocket for convenient abdominal access, ideal for accessing feeding tubes for example.

What really caught my eye about all of these accessible and wheelchair-friendly Halloween costumes – as well as the wheelchair covers – was that they would also be great for imaginative play before and after Halloween. While there are typically seasonal choices like a witch or a skeleton, there are also plenty of non-Halloween choices that would allow children to enjoy them all year-round.
